$195.00Price

Professionally framed 1962 woodblock print of ‘A View of the Sea’ by Tamami Shima (1937-1999). A broad view of the shoreline and sea over a stand of stark trees. Outstanding use of woodgrain to accentuate distant ocean waves and expansive vistas beyond. Artwork: 17” x 23 ½”,  Frame: 21 ½” x 27”

A groundbreaking listed artist, Shima is best known in the West because her art adorns the cover of a James A Michener book on Japanese woodblock prints. At the time, Shima was one of only two women getting recognition for their talent in a male dominated field.

Her works are in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian National Museum of Asian Art; LA County Museum of Art; and Harvard Art Museums/Arthur M. Sackler Museum among others.
